Great tool to learn basic theory, but arrived folded in half by Postal Service from lack of substantial packaging by Amazon Very easy to understand, helps a novice like myself identify key and shows me where I can venture within. Love this thing for figuring out simple blues riffs.HOWEVER... Amazon could do a solid here and ship it in something more substantial than a padded envelope. Mine arrived folded in half when it was stuffed in my box by the post office, so I sandwiched it in between two heavy books for a week to straighten it as much as possible. Amazon could use labels reading DO NOT BEND, and could/should insert a piece of cardboard (or two) to thwart a postman's urge to roll it up to fit into a mail box. It's not like they don't already use oversized boxes to ship a a couple of pens and a paperback across town, so they could certainly do more with items similar to this. If you can find this in your local music shop, I'd buy it there to ensure it is received as intended.Great tool for the money The Chord Wheel touches the most basic foundation in chord theory and chord progressions. The wheel itself and the way it is designed, is a great visual aid. The wheel, on the front of the book, (basically the circle of fifths) will be the most useful part for the majority of users. Within the rest of the 12 page book, it expands more in detail about chord theory. This book is most useful, in it's applications, for keyboard or guitar chord progression. I have played bass guitar, electric and acoustical guitar and keyboard (somewhat) for years and have recently picked up playing a ukulele, which only has 4 strings and is tuned entirely different than guitar. The Chord Wheel enables me, instantly, to be able to transpose songs that I know in one key on my guitar to any other key that is a better fit on my ukulele. You still need to have the knowledge of your instrument and how to play basic chords on them but this is the practical tool to have to transpose into other keys. This is a great transposing aid for other stringed instruments, as well, like banjo, mandolin, etc. Also, for the writer/composer, the visual aid enhances of all the family of chords available, in relation with the key he is composing in. This is also beneficial for the singer/player that needs to transpose his song into a different key for a better voice fit. Music has been around me for many years and the Chord Wheel is a very convenient cheat sheet in transposing and in the understanding of basic theory on the chord progressions in any given key. I am definitely happy to have this in my tool kit.If you only buy one music book ever... buy this one. This is a fantastic product for any type of musician wanting to develop a better understanding of chord progressions. I have been playing music on and off for 20 years as a hobby. I do not consider myself a professional musician. I vaguely remember instructors teaching me about the circle of fifths during my youth, but it didn't really stick. I recently picked up this book as I'm getting into hobby music producing on my computer. This has been an invaluable tool for understanding chord progressions and helping when I'm "hearing" a chord in my head, but can't quite find it. Strongly recommend it.
