I also pulled hard for them through every misunderstanding and confusing moment this book is a joy and the perfect book to get you into the holiday spiritThis book will pull at the heart strings. I loved the family dynamics from Merry and the lack of them from Jayson. I loved the lessons this book taught, and the way hearts were softened. Every character had their moment and every character had my heart. I loved Merry's brother Patrick who is eighteen and has down syndrome, and Merry's mother trying to brighten her daughters life while struggling with her own health issues. We don't see much of her father but we know he loves his family.Jayson's family is the opposite while he is very close to his cousin and semi close to an uncle he has a very bad relationship with his parents and this colors his views on love.These two are perfect in their imperfections and had my heart beating at several scenes.

Great tool to learn basic theory, but arrived folded in half by Postal Service from lack of substantial packaging by Amazon Very easy to understand, helps a novice like myself identify key and shows me where I can venture within. Love this thing for figuring out simple blues riffs.HOWEVER... Amazon could do a solid here and ship it in something more substantial than a padded envelope. Mine arrived folded in half when it was stuffed in my box by the post office, so I sandwiched it in between two heavy books for a week to straighten it as much as possible. Amazon could use labels reading DO NOT BEND, and could/should insert a piece of cardboard (or two) to thwart a postman's urge to roll it up to fit into a mail box. It's not like they don't already use oversized boxes to ship a a couple of pens and a paperback across town, so they could certainly do more with items similar to this. If you can find this in your local music shop, I'd buy it there to ensure it is received as intended.Great tool for the money The Chord Wheel touches the most basic foundation in chord theory and chord progressions. The wheel itself and the way it is designed, is a great visual aid. The wheel, on the front of the book, (basically the circle of fifths) will be the most useful part for the majority of users. Within the rest of the 12 page book, it expands more in detail about chord theory. This book is most useful, in it's applications, for keyboard or guitar chord progression. I have played bass guitar, electric and acoustical guitar and keyboard (somewhat) for years and have recently picked up playing a ukulele, which only has 4 strings and is tuned entirely different than guitar. The Chord Wheel enables me, instantly, to be able to transpose songs that I know in one key on my guitar to any other key that is a better fit on my ukulele. You still need to have the knowledge of your instrument and how to play basic chords on them but this is the practical tool to have to transpose into other keys. This is a great transposing aid for other stringed instruments, as well, like banjo, mandolin, etc. Also, for the writer/composer, the visual aid enhances of all the family of chords available, in relation with the key he is composing in. This is also beneficial for the singer/player that needs to transpose his song into a different key for a better voice fit. Music has been around me for many years and the Chord Wheel is a very convenient cheat sheet in transposing and in the understanding of basic theory on the chord progressions in any given key. I am definitely happy to have this in my tool kit.If you only buy one music book ever... buy this one. This is a fantastic product for any type of musician wanting to develop a better understanding of chord progressions. I have been playing music on and off for 20 years as a hobby. I do not consider myself a professional musician. I vaguely remember instructors teaching me about the circle of fifths during my youth, but it didn't really stick. I recently picked up this book as I'm getting into hobby music producing on my computer. This has been an invaluable tool for understanding chord progressions and helping when I'm "hearing" a chord in my head, but can't quite find it. Strongly recommend it.

Easy to follow and tasty This book is everything I hoped it would be. Easy to follow and tasty. I work full time and have a limited income so expensive ingredients that I’ll use one time are prohibitive. This book has every day ingredients put together in unique ways. I couldn’t be happier.5 Ingredients! Some good content...but too many extravagant dishes for a regular family. Need good homemade substitutes for old fashioned home cooked recipes.Waste of money Not only would you have to spend about half of your day cooking , the cost of buying all ingredients is a glaring example of how out of touch the author is with the financial reality most people face every day. Sure each recipe is five ingredients, but there is no consideration for left overs, consistency in ingredient choice,or alternatives to ingredients to save money. After working on way through about 2/3 of the book I found it took me (oh average) an extra 2 hours each day preparing meals or running to the store for obscure ingredients. I also averaged about 150$ extra (on top of what I already spend which was about 200) in two weeks on groceries. This is another fad diet with unrealistic guidelines.

Kindle version omits important text: for shame My review is about the Kindle version of this book. I read and enjoyed it--didn't love it--but it wasn't until I went to my book group to talk about it that I realized that a great deal of important material has been omitted from the Kindle version. there are additions, footnotes, introductions, and such, that give relevant Russian history, in the printed text, and they are central to understanding the book. They are absent from the Kindle version. Thus, as I read it, we had only the Count's view of life, and it was like reading a book by the 1% for the 1% with very little awareness of the millions of Russians starving, imprisoned, and dying outside of the posh Moscow hotel. The hard copy of the book, which I had not seen, has lots of authorial intervention that apparently offer commentary on life outside of the hotel and therefore profoundly affect a reader's understanding of the book. For shame to the electronic producers--If I were Towles I'd be furious.5 Incredibly Satisfying Stars! RATING: ★★★★★/ 5 Incredibly Satisfying stars!REVIEW: Book hangover. Book hangover for days. I had such an emotionally fulfilled feeling at the end of this novel that when I finished the last page, I closed the book, sat back, sighed deeply, and thought, "well, what now? where do I go from here? how do I move on?"...book hangover.It seems convoluted to start a review with the ending of a book, but this novel is actually a rather long tale, spanning 30+ years, so before I get into the journey, allow me this one break with decorum. The ending. Oh, this ending. Whenever anyone asks me which book ending I love the most, I will usually answer Water for Elephants, because it has one of the most satisfying endings I have ever read. And until now no other novel has come close to changing my answer. But A Gentleman in Moscow, if not completely upsetting Sara Gruen's work, at least pulls level with it, because it is such a satisfying end to this novel, and I'll say no more than that for fear of ruining the experience for anyone else.Who hasn't had the thought, at some point, that it would be nice to live in a hotel? Perhaps we don't imagine that it will be under house arrest and 1922 in Moscow, but it's a luxurious idea to entertain. It feels like such a universal fantasy that, despite the fact that we are not (probably) an aristocrat, a connoisseur of multiple tastes, exceedingly cultured, and currently exiled within our own country, we somehow connect with Count Rostov immediately. Here is a man from a by-gone era and yet he wins us over completely with his wit and charm from the very first page.This is all due completely to the beautiful writing of the author, of course. Amor Towles caught my attention with his first book Rules of Civility (which I also highly recommend), a book that is completely opposite to this one in nearly every way, except the writing. Towles writes with such sophistication and beauty in every carefully chosen word that it manages to feel effortless. It's captivating.A Gentleman in Moscow is rich with detail. The first half of the book creates a thorough and gorgeous visual of the hotel and it's occupants. While it may seem a bit exhaustive, it's entirely necessary. The reader is being immersed so fully into this setting that we feel just as the Count feels in his many years in the Metropol. And nothing is without purpose. Each moment and person is leading somewhere and the second half of the book is a revelation of a life well lived.I would be remiss if I didn't mention the humor and philosophical wisdom running throughout this novel. At times it's witty and funny in that perfectly refined way, and in the next moment it's incredibly astute and insightful. I could quote this book for days. As I was reading I would reach for my phone to snap a picture of passage that I didn't want to forget. This happened often. As intelligent as it is entertaining, this book has it all.I could ramble on about the the delightful and stunning setting of this book as well as the cast of characters that weave in and out and in again, but it might actually be overkill. By this point I'm sure you know that I recommend this book for multiple reasons. So it seems only right that you should discover the hotel and the people in it for yourself without me spoiling a thing.A Gentleman in Moscow is wonderful from beginning to end. It's the type of book that I know I will reread because I'm not ready to let it go. I don't want to say goodbye to the world and people that Towles has created, so I won't. I'll revisit often and always with a perfectly paired glass of wine in my hand, as Count Rostov would approve.A Gentleman In Moscow may have just become my favorite book. Ever. I’ve read many books and loved many books, but A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles may have just become my favorite.A Gentleman in Moscow is the 30-year saga of the Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov, who is placed under house arrest inside the Metropol Hotel in Moscow in 1922 when the Bolsheviks spare him from death or Siberia because of his 1913 revolutionary poem written in university. The relationships he forms with staff and guests, his handling of twists of fate, his moral rectitude and his perseverance to go on in the face of his lifelong imprisonment for being a Former Person make for a compelling tale, told beautifully by Towles. It is not overwritten, and provides just enough historical contexts without being burdensome. And Towles doesn’t overdo the use of the Russian diminutive, which I’ve found in Russian classics to be crazy making and require a scorecard. Towles gives the reader just enough background of his characters. We know them but still wonder; he’s left room for the reader. The story unfolds so wonderfully that I don’t want to give away more of the plot.I literally sat and stared into space for an hour after I finished A Gentleman In Moscow, contemplating it and wishing it hadn’t ended.I may just have to re-read it.
